NEREO
López Meza, one of Colombia's most renowned photographers
internationally known by his first name “tout sec”, was born
in the colonial port of Cartagena. Orphaned at an early age, he rose from
film projectionist to regional manager of a film distribution company
before a photography manual and correspondence course reoriented his life.
After an early interest in children’s portraiture, he turned to
photo-journalism, working for leading national publications as well as
others across the Americas and Europe. His dedication to his chosen medium
included an unceasing quest for new forms of expression; including his
most recent technique which he called transfografía “transphography”.
From 1987 to 1997 he directed the “Nereo Centro de Enseñanza
y Cultura Fotográfica” (Nereo Center for Photographic Education
and Culture) in Bogota. Currently he is experimenting with his new process
of transphography in digital form, and projects of books from books from
his lifetime file.. |
